"For Success to Breed Success, It Must Be Seen and Heard"

Scholar-Athlete Big Brother Program

Our young athletes are paired up with elite collegiate athletes to build special relationships. Throughout the summer months our athletes get together for cookouts, to play pick up basketball and other games, to swim and most importantly to discuss topics like the importance of academics, making good decisions, taking care of our bodies and spending time productively. These relationships impact both our young athletes and our "big brothers and sisters" in so many positive ways. We strongly believe that exposure to success, breeds success! We are confident that our Student-Athlete Big Brother/ Big Sister Program will become one of Connecticut Speed School's flagship programs.

At the Connecticut Speed School we believe that life is full of incredible opportunities. Our commitment as coaches to our student-athletes is to put them in the best position to excel when those opportunities present themselves! Luck is often defined as when "preparation meets opportunity." The Connecticut Speed School provides the preparation component of the equation; and not just in increasing speed and athleticism. Our entire coaching model revolves around the "complete" development of our youth --athletic, academic and personal. The Connecticut Speed School developed the "Dare to Be Great" Program specifically for our young athletes. We believe that our "Dare to Be Great" Program completes our youth development curriculum and offers our student-athletes something that is not found anywhere else.

The following essay ...And Then Some written by Carl Holmes accurately depicts Connecticut Speed School's approach to youth development and the life lessons we strive to teach.

...And Then Some

These three little words are the secret to success. They are the difference between average people and top people in the world.
The top people always do what is expected...and then some...
They are thoughtful to others; they are considerate and kind...and then some...
They meet their obligations and responsibilities fairly and squarely...and then some...
They are good friends and helping neighbors...and then some...
I am thankful for people like this, for they make the world more livable. Their spirit of service is summed up in these three little words...and then some.
